Simple Linking strategies to rank for your keywords
56What does linking have to do with SEO?
Developing a good linking plan for your site(s) is critical to ranking in SERPs. There are a few different types of links that are important.
Direct links to your site:
This can be accomplished through article marketing. Submitting to directories. Creating Hubs around your site. Creating lenses pointed at your site. Using blogs to link to your site. Using social bookmarks to link to your site. Reciprocal links. Yahoo profiles. Basically anything that creates a link to your site. These links not only bring in search engine spiders they will also deliver some traffic. The primary purpose IMHO is to attract the spiders, the traffic from these links is just a bonus.
On-site deep linking:
Deep linking on site just means that pages on your site link to other pages on your site. Don't hide your pages. One of the biggest mistakes that I see bloggers make is that they don't add links to old post or pages on their blog. If you wrote a post several moths or even years ago make sure the spiders see it still. Archives are just that archives. So link fresh content to old content.
I will write a new hub about anchor text and url design strategies soon, but this part of your site management is the most often overlooked. Anchor text is keyword text that you either deep link in your site or even better out to authority sites. Linking out to authority sites will increase your search engine trust.
