Deciding on a niche
65The process I use
When deciding on an affiliate offer that I wish to promote I consider just three things. Does it have a high paying affiliate offer, does it have search traffic and is the competition for search traffic moderate enough that I can get first page rankings. I do not take into account if it is something that I know a lot about. Although I do well with some niches that I have first hand expansive knowledge of.
Let me dissect my three requirements.
Does it have a high paying affiliate offer?
There are lots of high paying affiliate offers. The ones I refuse to get involved with are multilevel affiliate programs and MLM. These are not usually viable long term and require to much work to see real money from. Successful affiliate marketers are "Jack's of all trades and masters of none" meaning that quantity is better than quality in affiliate marketing.. I rather have 10 affiliate offers that I am promoting making $50 a day than one making $500 a day. So if one closes up shop I can just find a replacement fairly easy without financial struggle.
I consider a high paying affiliate offer to be one that pays over $30 per sale or more than $10 per lead, although with the right offer low paying affiliate offers can be nice campaigns if you can get enough volume.
Does it have enough search volume?
What qualifies as enough search volume? I prefer that there be over over 30,000 searches per month on the main niche keyword with over 20,000 monthly searches on the long tail keywords. That will give me 50,000 opportunities to get clicks to my site if I have done my job properly in getting the search engines to find my sites/offers.
How competitive is the search volume?
In order for an offer to be worth my time I have to be able to get top rankings in the search engines for my long tail key words. If the competition is to high I may pass on the niche. That is why I don't promote mortgage offers, forex offers or get rich quick schemes. I want to get the first page and not fight for it. A properly optimized site using a wordpress blog can do this.
I have covered a lot of ground here and some of the terms used you may not understand. Don't worry I will be supplementing this on a regular basis it will all come together for you. I will make it so simple an 8 yo can do it. But I have to start somewhere. Please join my fan club so you can stay updated on new hubs about this topic.
